Hygienic coatings for the beverage industry
In production rooms in the beverage industry, the humidity averages 70-90%. Especially behind pipelines and in areas with low air circulation, e.g. behind tank installations, the warmer room air condenses on the surface of ceilings and walls. The condensate also contains residues from the production process, which provide a suitable source of nutrients for the biofilm. On unprotected surfaces, there is now a risk of mould and bacteria formation.
In storage and ripening rooms, the climatic conditions are – depending on the industry – drier and cooler. These rooms are often located in the basement area. Due to low air circulation, components in contact with the ground and thermal bridges in the area of the storage tanks, these areas are critical from a building physics point of view.
This makes it all the more important to select the right coating for ceilings and walls in order to avoid spalling, mould and bacteria formation or chalking surfaces from the outset. These are the properties that a resilient surface coating for production, cooling and storage rooms in the beverage industry should have:
- High moisture resistance
- Protection against mould and bacteria
- Medium vapour diffusion (due to possible residual moisture)
- Drying even at low temperatures
These FAKOLITH coatings meet the above requirements and offer maximum safety and hygiene:

Important!
The substrate pre-treatment. This means cleaning, substrate remediation, consolidation and possibly the use of a rust inhibitor or adhesion promoter. These measures are important to ensure the adhesion of the coating and to achieve a surface that can withstand long-term stress. Further functional FAKOLITH system products are available for substrate pre-treatment. The Technical Data Sheets and Renovation Concepts contain corresponding instructions for substrate pre-treatment.
