Which products are suitable for direct contact with food?
Only products that can be guaranteed not to transfer harmful substances from the product to the food are suitable for direct contact with food. With regard to the suitability of coatings for direct contact with food, the European Regulation VO (EU) 10/2011 is valid. Regulation (EU) 10/2011 covers all products with a plastic-based binder (e.g. acrylic lacquers, epoxy resin, polyurethane coatings). When assessing whether a product is suitable for the respective application in direct contact with food, the factors that can change the chemical and physical properties of a product must also be taken into account. These include, for example, cleaning agents used in food production, very high and very low temperatures, products from the production process such as vapours, gases, grease deposits, etc. It is therefore important to consider the production load and cleaning measures when selecting coatings in direct contact with food.
